GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER

For faith to be understood and deepened, we have to accept the CROSS of Christ. Only through difficulties and trials comes growth. This is God's GIFT to us. However, many are turning their backs from it.

As narrated, St Francis Xavier in his zeal for God, travelled by ship on his mission trips to Asia. He braved many storms. The storms of life and the storm of the seas, his convictions unshaken. Commonly seen holding a crucifix when speaking about Christ's salvation. In today's context, we are represented journeying with him on this ship of faith, as individuals and as a parish. He is constantly pointing out to us the path that leads to God.

The Christian faith is a daily struggle as represented by the rough waters of the sea. In order to live out our Christian values, we must constantly stay focused on Christ. If not, we will be tossed about in the waves of life's problems and unable to regain our footing.

The Star beside the Cross symbolizes Mary - help of Christians. By the bright light of her grace, she helps us see Christ in the storms of life and she also helps us anchor ourselves onto her Son who is our source of comfort and strength. This we experience through our frequent reception of the Eucharist, the GIFT of His very self to us.

This marks the beginning of our journey of 'growing in faith together'.

Let us Pray

God of all Ages,

Maker of all things, remember that you alone has created the souls of unbelievers, which you have made according to your Image and Likeness.

Your Son Jesus Christ has shed His Blood and suffered for them. Do not permit that your Son, Our Lord, remain unknown by unbelievers, but, with the help of your Saints and the Church, the Bride of your Son, remember your mercy, forget their idolatry and infidelity, and make them know Him, whom you have sent, Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who is our salvation, our life, and our resurrection, through whom we have been saved and redeemed, and to whom is due glory forever.

Amen.
